I was born sept 1957. must be 4 / 5 months in the pic. So we must be talking early 58.
Prefab: 67 Gateside Ave. My mother (June) says the pic was taken in 1965.
I lived at 31 Montgomery Place Newton up until my second year at newton primary then moved to the prefabs and went to Hallside primary.

Just came across this song in an old paperback I recently bought entitled 'Victoria's Inferno -- SONGS OF THE OLD MILLS, MINES, MANUFACTORIES, CANALS AND RAILWAYS'. I'd guess that many of your site visitors will be familiar with the song and the event, but they might not know all the words. There must have been miners from Cambuslang and surrounding villages also working there at the time. In following decades, I had a grandfather, father, and several uncles working in a Blantyre pit.

I can't imagine there could be any copywright restriction on an old song of that type.

Thanks for all your good work -- I often visit your site, which should be much more patronised.

With thanks

Francie Reilly

The one to the right of the man is my Mum, Marjorie Connelly (darkest hair).  She was in Tommy’s class pic.   Wilma Riley (married name I believe) is the gal on the right with the cig in her left hand and was my Mum’s best friend.   They must have been about 19 or so, because my Mum came to the states when she was 21 and Wilma did not.  My mum was born 07/21/1942.  I would have to believe this pic was taken in Cambuslang.  The man in the middle is her brother. I have never met him.  I do not know who the man in the background is, but Nicola, Wilma’s daughter will surely know.  Both my Mum and Wilma are deceased, but I am still in contact with Nicola, Wilma’s daughter who sent me this picture.  She is still living near Cambuslang, I believe.  I have lots of other pics, and my other two Aunts (my mum’s sisters are still alive out here in San Diego, California).  There are many, many pics.  I would love to find more to give you. Here is another one of my mother, Marjorie Connelly’s wedding, after she came to San Diego from Cambuslang.   Shown, are her mother Kathleen (Ward) Connelly, her sister Kathleen Connelly (Hoverter), then my Mum, Marjorie Connelly (Desmond), my Father Timothy Desmond, and Father Michael Higgins.
