AN amateur historian is hoping people in Cambuslang can help him put names to faces in a number of old school photographs.
Ed Boyle was born and bred in Cambuslang in 1944 and retains a strong affinity for the town.
He set up his own website 15 years ago to document old pictures of the area, and it has gone from strength to strength, drawing interest from all over the world.
One section includes old school photos from St Brides - where Ed was a pupil - the old Gateside and Hallside Primary, as well as some miscellaneous photographs from other local schools.
The pictures are dated from before 1970 and Ed hopes to see if he can get the names of some of the pupils.
He said: Ive had a number of people come on to the site and ask me about the school photos and it would be great if any names could be appended to them.
Some have names attached but many of them do not. People have suggested using the Reformer to persuade children to go on and see if they recognise their parents.
The pictures are all mainly from before 1970 and many of the people in them will be older, so perhaps they dont use the internet as much. Those that do can maybe identify themselves as well as the names of their friends.
The project would help add another dimension to the site, which has already proved a hit.
The pictures range from aerial shots to local landmarks and people. Some are over a century old.
There is also information, poems and stories about old Cambuslang.
Hundreds of people have signed the guestbook, many from places such as the USA or Canada, who have been researching their family history, especially at a time when interest in ancestry is so high.
To see the old school photos just go to www.edwardboyle.com/EB/cambuslang/Cambuslang.html. You can also upload your own photos to the site, where you will receive full credit.
