I thank all those who have donated photo's and I have indicated that against each such photo.
You may like to know that there are 'official' photo's that were taken at the time Cambuslang was being redeveloped in the early sixties. These are recognisable by having a street plan attached. I remember these as coloured photos which were displayed briefly at that time on large notice boards at strategic points throughout the area. The boards showed 'before and after' illustrations. examples are on the area redevelopment page. At that time Cambuslang was politically the 8th District Council of Lanarkshire. Since then it has merged with, then eventually left Glasgow administration. It would be interesting to know the current whereabouts of the these photo's. I suspect a storage area somewhere in the Hamilton area. If anyone knows...!
Others were copied from a selection of books that I bought over the years and the details are below.
I am also grateful to the staff of Halfway and Cambuslang Libraries for their kind and enthusiastic help. I also thank the many others who donated individual photo's from their own collection. There is much more information held in each library including old maps, histories (even going back to pre dinosaur days) and reminiscences recorded by individuals describing local life and work in the early part of the the twentieth century.
However, I have found that, over time, such valuable historic articles 'disappear' never to be found again. So this site will help to retain some of those memories.
