Mr Finlayson taught maths at Gateside and was quite a popular teacher. He was also involved in running the school football team. During one of the Saturday morning home games in 1959, at the pitch next to the Welfare Club in Halfway, he collapsed and died and of a heart attack. He was 51 years of age.
